When decorating my dining room I originally went the formal route. I had my grandmother’s dining room set which included a table, chairs, buffet and china closet. Everything was mahagony. Everything was a set and everything was not the look my husband and I wanted. I also did not like the feeling that I was living in my grandmother’s house . Because I wasn’t willing to get rid of the set or paint it, I decided to do a little switcheroo. I brought my bookcase that my Dad built and put it in the dining room. The book shelf is navy so it breaks up all the mahagony wood and adds a more casual vibe to the dining room. I love it.
I scoured Craig’s List to find the perfect coffee table to upcycle for my living room. I wanted it to have good bones, a bottom shelf, and drawers. I found this Pennsylvania House one for 20 dollars and quickly snatched it up. I sanded, primed and painted it with exterior-white paint. Next I added nautical-navy stripes. I think everything looks great with stripes. Lastly, I took off the old hardware and added these fun green pulls from Anthropologie
